To Cook a Bear is based on the historical crime novel by Mikael Niemi and set in 1852 in northern Sweden, following a young Sami boy named Jussi and the revivalist preacher Lars Levi Laestadius as they investigate a series of mysterious disappearances and deaths that the locals attribute to a bear. Laestadius, however, suspects a more sinister human killer and uses his skills as a botanist and his forensic eye to uncover the truth
